Arrive with a plan

Two named options outside the peninsula. Check the operator and the signs at your actual space: street zones and seasonal prices differ.

Garage Center

112. brigade ZNG 1, Zadar ↗

A structured garage on the mainland, open 24 hours. The operator describes it as about a 10-minute walk from the old town; that is an operator estimate, not a route measured by this guide. Useful when you want a defined destination before entering the centre.

Published hourly rate: €1 January–April and October–December; €1.50 May–June; €3 July–September.

Branimirova obala

Obala kneza Branimira, Zadar ↗

Metered street parking on the mainland waterfront, convenient for the pedestrian bridge. These are individual spaces, not a single garage entrance. Choose a legal space, check its zone and payment instructions, then cross the bridge on foot.

Managed by Obala i lučice. Availability is not guaranteed; the tariff at your parking space takes precedence.

Arriving & parking

Confirm your actual arrival point. Gaženica ferry port and the peninsula are different locations, so check the port named on your ticket. For flights and local buses, consult current operator schedules. If driving, choose a designated car park and check the signs rather than assuming you can reach an old-town address by car.

Choosing the right moment

Our suggestion is to start early or leave a generous late-afternoon window. In the heat of summer, plan a shaded break. Spring and autumn can suit longer walks; in winter, check the forecast and opening days before building your visit around an interior.

Entry, opening hours & time

There is no general admission fee for the old town’s streets. Individual attractions set their own ticketing and opening hours, and religious buildings may close to visitors during services. Keep your itinerary flexible and confirm anything essential directly. Allow a full day if you want more than an introductory walk.

Accessibility & comfort

The old town is only partly accessible. The Sea Organ’s upper edge is accessible, but its lower steps are not a step-free route. Check the tourist board’s detailed accessibility guide for individual sites. For a wheelchair or pushchair, plan around thresholds, level changes and the exact entrance you need.

Eat with the rhythm of the day

Make room for the city market and ask what is in season. Choose lunch by the menu and the cooking that appeals to you, then confirm opening hours and dietary needs directly. For a quieter evening, have dinner after your walk rather than trying to squeeze it between landmarks.

A city that people call home

Keep noise low in residential lanes, avoid blocking entrances and ask before photographing people at close range. Stay off fragile remains and take litter with you. The best visit leaves the old town as welcoming for the next morning as it was for yours.

Use the official visitor information below for current services. Prices, timetables and opening hours are deliberately linked to their operators.
